I began photographing landscapes as an undergraduate at Princeton University. Later, at the School of Visual Arts MFA program in
Photography and Related Media, I began to see landscape photography as a kind of geography, a visual rendering of the complicated nexus of geology, history, and ideology. Subsequent projects, the whole great world, Atlantis, and Falling at His Feet, investigated imposed notions of paradise, through simultaneous moments of failure and fleeting edenic success. More recent work like Right Coast, which explored surfing in New York City embraced a more documentary approach and sparked an interest in portraiture. What are the Wild Waves Saying: Storm Stories from the Rockaways, a collaboration with radio journalist Jen Poyant, continues to embrace my longstanding ideas about landscape, while deepening my interest in unfolding the lives that are lived within it.

I live in Rockaway Beach, Queens, NY, with my husband, daughter, three cats, numerous surfboards, and an abiding love for the city and the sea.
